Prescription Drugs

Prescription drug benefits are offered through all three Baker Hughes Medical plans.

Prescription drugs are expensive, which is why Baker Hughes provides Prescription Drug coverage automatically with your medical coverage.

They also account for the largest share of your Medical plan premium, so it’s smart to ask your doctor to prescribe generic equivalents whenever possible. Generics work the same as (or similar to) the more expensive brand-name drugs, but cost Baker Hughes—and you—much less. If a generic isn’t available, ask your doctor to prescribe a brand name drug that’s listed on the CVS/caremark formulary.

You will receive a CVS/caremark Prescription Drug ID card the first time you enroll in a Baker Hughes Medical plan.

Prescription drug costs

What you pay when you need a prescription depends on the Medical plan you enroll in. Go to the CVS/caremark website to review the list of covered medications and preventive drugs (called the "formulary") and to find prescription drug costs. You can also review the formulary here.

If you enroll in the Premium HSA or Basic HSA plan, you will bypass the deductible for certain preventive medications. Under all three plans, select preventive drugs are covered at no cost. You can find a list of clinically effective and cost-effective medications, including covered medications and preventive drugs, on the CVS/caremark website.

Maintenance medications

If you take prescription medications regularly, known as maintenance medications, CVS Caremark’s Maintenance Choice® program can help you save time and money.

After your third 30-day fill at a retail pharmacy, the plan requires you to switch to a 90-day supply. You can choose one of the following convenient options:

  • Fill at a CVS/pharmacy location
  • Use a 90-day supply network pharmacy
  • Order through an approved mail service pharmacy

No matter which option you choose, you’ll pay mail service pricing, helping you save costs. Click here to find a select participating pharmacy.

Specialty prescriptions

Specialty prescriptions must be filled through CVS/caremark Specialty Pharmacy or select CVS retail pharmacies. Log on to or call 1-800-237-2767 to speak with a specialty pharmacy representative.

Specialty drugs and Prudent Rx

Baker Hughes employees enrolled into the Standard PPO medical plan are eligible to enroll into PrudentRx for specialty medications. This program is designed to lower your out of pocket costs by assisting you with enrollment in drug manufacturers discount copay cards/assistance programs. When enrolled in PrudentRx, your out of pocket cost will be $0 for medications included on the CVS Preferred Specialty Drug List.

How to enroll

If you currently take one or more of the medications included on the CVS Preferred Specialty Drug List, you will receive a welcome letter and phone call from PrudentRx that provides information about the program as it pertains to your medication(s). All eligible members’ enrollment will begin automatically in the PrudentRx program, but you can choose to opt out of the program by calling 800-578-4403. If you choose to opt out of the program, or do not affirmatively enroll in available copay assistance as required by a manufacturer, you will be responsible for the full 30% co-insurance on specialty medications under your plan design.

If you or a covered family member are not currently taking but will start a new medication covered under the PrudentRx program, you can reach out to PrudentRx or they will proactively contact you to assist with program enrollment.
